2022 Team Information & Updates

3/3/2022

More Housekeeping.....
  • Scoreboard: Varsity has a good crop of parents working the booth (thank you gentlemen!)  We need some JV parents (2 is ideal) to work the booth for the JV games. If you are interested, please email me back asap so you can get set up.
  • Scoretable:  I know-- it can be scary but each and every one of us has watched enough lacrosse in our day to be able to follow the ball and write down basic info such as when a goal was scored.  Both JV and Varsity need parents to sign up.
                             JV Scorekeeper      Varsity Scorekeeper
  • Carpool: If your student-athlete will not be in the carpool, meaning, you are driving your child to the game, kindly email me at least 36 hours before the game. Carpool assignments go through the admin office of MVHS. It's hard at the last minute to make changes and assure that there are seats for all athletes. HUGE thank you to all the parents that drove to Berkeley last week for our first game of the season.
                           JV Carpool                  Varsity Carpool
  • Athletic Boosters Crab Feed will be Saturday March 26th @ Danville Community Center. Tickets can be purchased at mvhigh.futurefund.com. Each spring sport team is asked to donate a gift basket, which is auctioned off at the event. If any parent would like to organize this basket, it would be awesome. Email or text me asap so I can help you get the ball rolling on it.
  • Live streaming of select lacrosse games: Thanks to Matt A for noticing the NFHS Network camera on top of the booth. Subscribe to NFHSNetwork to view the games.
  • Tailgate @ Oak Hill Park this Friday (March 4th) before the Varsity game.  Meet by the bridge/sand volleyball courts-- right by the cut through to the field.  Bill and I will be there close to 6:15 due to prior commitments but will be there with Mustang spirit!
  • Senior Parents: look for a separate email later tonight to go over senior activities.
Home Games  & Parent Jobs
Thank you to all the parents who drove to the first away game in Berkeley! The next away game for both JV & Varsity is on March 15th to Piedmont-- we will need some drivers.

Practice, Game Schedule & More!
Practice will at @ MV from 5:00-7:00 pm turf field
The game schedule is posted on the Schedule tab.

JV has a PLAY DATE this weekend @ Northgate HS.
Game times are 12:00, 12:30 and 1:30 pm.  Please arrive by 11:00 am. There is no official carpool for this so please drive your own student-athlete.

Carpool: We need to have more parents cleared for driving. There are nine away games this year. Please visit the Be A Mentor site for volunteer clearance.  For those who have already done this, thank you!

Team Pictures are on 2/23 @ 3:30 Oak Hill Park. Please use the link to prepay for the pictures.  There are also envelopes that they ask the students provide (place holders/organization for them).  Kelly will have the envelopes. Uniforms should be distributed before then.

Team Donation There is a voluntary donation of $400 per athlete.  This covers the cost of referees, insurance, uniforms and more! If you would like to donate, please bring a check made payable to: Monte Vista Women's Lacrosse.  Currently, there is no link on the website as a check is preferred.

Carpool Information & More
Carpool is back this year with one caveat: upload to the Be A Mentor website either a copy of your vaccination card or negative test result within 7 days of driving. See below from the Carpool Clearance Guru @ MV Chris Watson:
  • Each volunteer driver must be cleared through Be A Mentor.  If a parent is unable to upload their insurance, driver's license and/or driver's license, have the parent send their documents to me (not Be A Mentor) and I'll do it for them.
  • The new state orders that went into effect 10/15/21 require all school staff and volunteers to provide either proof of the Covid vaccination or a negative test result taken within the last 7 days before driving.
  • Please ask volunteer drivers to take a few minutes to view this School Volunteers and FERPA.
  • Students need to be assigned to drivers before each away game and the assignments need to be sent to me the day before or the morning of.  Students may not switch cars.
  • Students are not allowed to drive themselves to any away games at any time.
  • Parents do not have to be cleared drivers to drive their own son or daughter.
  • Each parent driver must carry the hard copy of the student's confidential emergency forms.
  • Carpools must start and end at Monte Vista.

For now, I will be able to coordinate the carpool for the VARSITY but will need a parent on the JV team to coordinate for the JV Team. It's not complicated. Once the schedule is finalized, there is a sign-up genius that the dates can be plugged into.

Team Photos are Wednesday 2/23 @ Oak Hill Park. Prepayment is the best way however they still ask for the traditional envelops as it's easier for them when taking photos. Click here to pay for your photos from Bay Sports Photography.

Thanks to all those families who placed orders for lacrosse spirit wear.  The vendor, BSN SPORTS gives back a %age of sales to the team.  MV Women's Lacrosse should see at some point this year ~$700 in our coffer from the sales.

Schedule: waiting for the final final before it's posted! Thanks for your patience.

Parent Meeting is TBD and is most likely virtual due to timing.

Save the Dates

Other non-game jobs include:  Senior Night, Pasta Feeds and end of the year festivities (assuming allowable under CDPH guidance). Anything sound interesting?  Send me an email and I will get you all squared away.

ATHLETIC UPDATE FROM SRVUSD: Dear Monte Vista Community,

We are happy to announce that today SRVUSD received guidance from the North Coast Section Office regarding the reopening of high school athletics. This means by Monday, some of Monte Vista’s student-athletes will be back in action.

Although we are thrilled to share this news with you, there is some important information you will need to know before things get started. In order for us to keep these sports open, we absolutely must work together to follow all the guidance provided to our league. Every person, including our students, staff, parents/guardians and families, must abide by these requirements.

Under the East Bay Athletic League’s (EBAL) guidance, all SRVUSD sports will reopen their seasons of sport based on Contra Costa County’s current color tier. All sports must also comply with guidance from the CA Dept of Public Health and local county departments of health. In addition, CIF has established COVID-19 accommodations for each sport. These sport-specific guidelines can be found here.
Overview of Sports Allowed in Each Tier:
Purple: Cross-Country, Golf, Tennis, Track & Field, Swimming and Diving
Red: Baseball, Softball, Women’s Lacrosse
Orange: Football, Mens’ Lacrosse, Soccer, Volleyball, Water Polo, Badminton
Yellow: Competitive Sport Cheer, Basketball, Wrestling

Important information from EBAL that pertains to every sport:
EBAL schools agree to not participate in NCS or CIF post season play
EBAL may opt to adjust seasons of sport based on unforeseen circumstances

SRVUSD Upcoming Sports Reopening Dates:
February 1, 2021 - Cross Country, Swimming, and Diving
February 8, 2021 - Golf and Tennis
March 22, 2021 - Track and Field

No Spectators For Sports
There will be no spectators allowed at any of our games/matches or practices. An exception will be made for officially designated volunteers, such as timekeepers, only. Please reach out to your student’s coach for more information.
We understand how tough it is not to be able to cheer on your athlete in person. However, it is critical together to follow all rules placed upon our leagues to ensure that sports that are allowed to open, remain open.

Transportation and Form Requirement for Students
No buses will be provided for transporting students to and from games.
Prior to starting their first practice, all students are required to submit the Alternative Form of Transportation form signed by a parent/guardian.
  • Students may drive themselves, only, to and from the games/matches. No other students are permitted in their vehicle. OR
  • Parents may transport their student, only, to and from games/matches. No other students outside of their household are allowed in the vehicle.

If you have any questions, please contact Monte Vista Athletic Director, Andy Popper. Current coach contact information is available at the mvhigh.net website.

We look forward to welcoming back our student-athletes.
Sincerely,
Dr. Kevin Ahern                                        Andy Popper

Team Information 2020

Information from the National Federation of HS Sports regarding return to play guidance during COVID-19.

NFHS Covid-19 Guidance
April 2020
Well, this is certainly not how anyone would have predicted the season to end. While it is certainly less than ideal, there are some bright spots:
  • the girls got to play together for several games
  • they made some new friends on the team
  • the families made some new quick friends too!
  • we had an awesome head coach who really wanted to work with the athletes

Team Pictures were shipped to my house. I do not have everyone's address, which makes it hard to deliver both JV and Varsity team pictures. Please text me: 925-997-6413 as I can leave them on my front porch.

Shutterfly has all the pictures from the games loaded onto the share site.  Thank you Barb for uploading them. To access the pictures, go to the Shutterfly Share site app on your phone.

Seniors: this is so not how we want to celebrate your hard work in lacrosse. We love you tons.  Look for a surprise coming in the next week or two.

Uniforms:  Please drop off your uniform in the baggie that was provided (or something similar) when you pick up your pictures. The uniforms are brand new; we cannot afford to lose any uniforms.

Update Friday 3/13:  As you have all seen already from the email from Coach Jess, under the direction of the EBAL officials, the lacrosse season is on hold until further notice. Click here for the complete letter. Be optimistic that the season will continue. Watch out for your elderly neighbors,  maybe go to the grocery store for them, and, of course, wash your hands. AND this is just in: the official SRVUSD is closed until April 13th.
As of Wednesday 3/11:
The home game vs Dublin HS is on!  I am sure you read the email from the SRVUSD: No spectators. If you are working the game: stats, scorer and scoreboard-- you are welcome to be there: Salles, Mark, Howe, and King (scoreboard).  If you can not be there, let me know asap. The Salles family worked Granite Bay (thank you!) so if someone who is slotted to work Saturday wants to step in, let me know. The "No Spectators" is in effect, as of today, until March 21st and includes carpool drivers. Carpool drivers unite~ we can find something fun to do while the girls play.

Here is the information from the school district in case you missed it.

Saturday 3/14 @ Marin Catholic is postponed.  Marin Catholic school is closed until 3/25.

Week of 4/22 Game Updates:
Thank you to all the families who have stepped up to drive to the away games. While unfortunately JV did not have enough drivers for Davis and had to forfeit the game, we were able to get enough drivers for the Varsity team to make the journey.  Thank you Tressa!

Away Games: We really do not want to miss them.  Yes, going into the city for SI but the game will be 100% worth it.  The game is always a good, strong game for both Varsity and JV. Please, look at your work schedule now. Both of our carpool coordinators spent over 2 hours each today getting carpool together.
Davis 4/23 (Varsity only; JV forfeit due to lack of drivers)
Amador Valley 4/26
St. Ignatius 4/30

Volunteer Jobs
Thank you to all the families who have worked games, set up and hosted pasta feeds and more!  The team really appreciate all the hard work so they can play the game they love.

If you have not worked a game yet, please email me ([email protected]). The Banquet Committee could use a few hands from both Varsity and JV. Look for an email and evite soon.  JV could also use a hand on the score table. If you are willing to help, please email Maria Romo (I am encouraging all to work at least once at the table.  While it might seem overwhelming, it's really a good job and a great way to know the game and the athletes.

Welcome back from spring break!
We hope everyone had a wonderful week touring colleges, hanging on the beach or slopes, catching up on sleep and just spending time with family and friends.

Granite Bay games are cancelled due to lack of drivers. PLEASE go on the Sign-ups (located on tab: coaches and Parent Jobs) and sign up. There are only a few more away games this season: Davis and SI are the farthest away. Lets make sure they are filled.

Boathouse Jackets arrive on Wednesday.  Paula O'Keefe will contact you for delivery.

Fundraising and Team Donations Thank you to all the friends and families who donated to the SnapRise fundraiser. The final numbers are pending but they look good! A huge thank you to the families who also made the voluntary team donation. We are above 60% now which will allow for uniforms, equipment and salaries.  Thank you!

End of the Year Banquet: You should have received an email from Caroline ap Rees and Mae Bustonera. Please save the date: May 22nd at Blackhawk Country Club. Details and Evite to come from the chairpeople.

Team Photos: If you have not picked up your photos, please ask your daughter to pick them up after practice today from the Captains.

Parent Update

Thank you to all the parents who have stepped up to drive to the away games!  The girls really appreciate the support. Here are a few important pieces of information:
  • Athletic Donations and Volunteers are what makes the program happen. Without volunteers, the games will not occur, no scores entered or pictures taken.  Please check your schedule if you are a scorekeeper/stats table volunteer. If you can not make make it, please email people in your group to swap.  Sports programs at SRVUSD schools are self- funded. This means, the voluntary donations pay for the coaching salary, team uniforms and equipment and the end of year banquet.  Please make your donation either online or by check (payable to MV Women's Lacrosse and given to the Athletic Office).

Tryouts are right around the corner.  We are looking forward to seeing everybody out on the field!!  In order to tryout, your sports paperwork must be completed and turned into Melissa French in the office by 1/20/2017.  Melissa will give the coaches a list of all players cleared to tryout.

Each athlete is given at least three days to tryout.  Winter athletes are given three days once their winter sport is over.  If you are a winter sport athlete trying out for women’s lacrosse, please e-mail Coach Megan ([email protected]) by January 20th and indicate your name, winter sport, and date that your winter sport ends.  Plan to attend tryouts as soon as your winter sport is completed.
