ATHLETIC UPDATE FROM SRVUSD: Dear Monte Vista Community, We are happy to announce that today SRVUSD received guidance from the North Coast Section Office regarding the reopening of high school athletics. This means by Monday, some of Monte Vista’s student-athletes will be back in action. Although we are thrilled to share this news with you, there is some important information you will need to know before things get started. In order for us to keep these sports open, we absolutely must work together to follow all the guidance provided to our league. Every person, including our students, staff, parents/guardians and families, must abide by these requirements. Under the East Bay Athletic League’s (EBAL) guidance, all SRVUSD sports will reopen their seasons of sport based on Contra Costa County’s current color tier. All sports must also comply with guidance from the CA Dept of Public Health and local county departments of health. In addition, CIF has established COVID-19 accommodations for each sport. These sport-specific guidelines can be found here. Overview of Sports Allowed in Each Tier: Purple: Cross-Country, Golf, Tennis, Track & Field, Swimming and Diving Red: Baseball, Softball, Women’s Lacrosse Orange: Football, Mens’ Lacrosse, Soccer, Volleyball, Water Polo, Badminton Yellow: Competitive Sport Cheer, Basketball, Wrestling Important information from EBAL that pertains to every sport: EBAL schools agree to not participate in NCS or CIF post season play EBAL may opt to adjust seasons of sport based on unforeseen circumstances SRVUSD Upcoming Sports Reopening Dates: February 1, 2021 - Cross Country, Swimming, and Diving February 8, 2021 - Golf and Tennis March 22, 2021 - Track and Field No Spectators For Sports There will be no spectators allowed at any of our games/matches or practices. An exception will be made for officially designated volunteers, such as timekeepers, only. Please reach out to your student’s coach for more information. We understand how tough it is not to be able to cheer on your athlete in person. However, it is critical together to follow all rules placed upon our leagues to ensure that sports that are allowed to open, remain open. Transportation and Form Requirement for Students No buses will be provided for transporting students to and from games. Prior to starting their first practice, all students are required to submit the Alternative Form of Transportation form signed by a parent/guardian.
If you have any questions, please contact Monte Vista Athletic Director, Andy Popper. Current coach contact information is available at the mvhigh.net website. We look forward to welcoming back our student-athletes.
